Russia’s Vologda Oblast to consider launching direct air service with Belarus

VOLOGDA, 13 October (BelTA) - Russia’s Vologda Oblast intends to consider launching a direct air service with Belarus, Governor of Vologda Oblast Oleg Kuvshinnikov said during a meeting with Belarusian and Russian journalists, BelTA has learned.

“Considering the further development of the Russian-Belarusian machine-building cluster in Cherepovets, we may come to need the direct air service. We will consider this issue in the near future,” the governor said.

Oleg Kuvshinnikov said that Cherepovets attracts a large number of business. The number of visitors from Belarus in Vologda Oblast is growing too.

The local airline Severstal already finds it difficult to deal with the growing number of passengers. Its route network is overloaded. According to the governor, the carrier intends to increase its aircraft fleet to cope with the challenge.

A meeting of Belarusian and Russian journalists with the governor of the Russian region was held as part of the press tour “Vologda Region - the largest machine-building cluster of Russia and Belarus” organized by the Union State Standing Committee and the international news agency Russia Today.
