Russia’s Republic of Komi to borrow Belarusian agrarian, civil engineering practices

GRODNO, 21 September (BelTA) – The Republic of Komi intends to borrow Belarusian practices in the area of agribusiness and civil engineering. The statement was made during the session of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Republic of Komi on 21 September, BelTA has learned.

Interaction in economy, the social and cultural sphere was mentioned among strategic avenues of mutually beneficial cooperation during the meeting.

Upon request of the government Grodno Oblast coordinates cooperation between Belarus and the Republic of Komi, said Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov. “It is the second joint session already, this is why we can talk about concrete avenues of cooperation. Those are certainly trade and deliveries of Belarusian food. Technical matters were discussed today such as how we can deliver and sell these products,” he said. The governor mentioned the sides are interested in cooperation in agribusiness. The Belarusian experience in this sphere — from designing and building agricultural facilities to assimilating technologies for processing raw materials — will be actively borrowed by partners. Interaction in civil engineering was also discussed.

“We are not just sharing proposals. The implementation of concrete projects in many spheres has begun,” said Larisa Maksimova, First Deputy Chairwoman of the government of the Republic of Komi. “It was important for us to get familiar with the social and economic potential of Grodno Oblast. We have something to learn from this region from the point of view of farming standards, manufacturing sector, and civil engineering. We are going to borrow the best Belarusian practices.”

There is a great potential in cooperation in education, culture, tourism, and sport. In particular, good infrastructure for winter sports in the Republic of Komi can be used by Belarusian athletes. In turn, Grodno Oblast may interest Russian guests in recreational tourism.

The Republic of Komi delegation also took part in the 19th national universal expo and fair Euroregion Neman 2017, which is scheduled to take place in Grodno on 21-23 September. Documents and agreements are supposed to be signed, including an agreement on twinning the cities of Grodno and Ukhta.
