Presidential election in Belarus expected to further improve relations with foreign partners

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) – In an interview with The Washington Post Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei expressed hope that the presidential election in Belarus that are scheduled for autumn 2015 will lead to further improvement of relations with foreign partners. The transcript of the interview was published on the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA has learned.

“We in Belarus do not want these elections fall into a kind of a cycle when we have good relations (with some countries - BelTA) before the elections and bad relations afterwards. We are determined to hold these elections in accordance with the national legislation and international obligations and would like these elections to bring further improvement in our relations with foreign partners,” Vladimir Makei said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the forthcoming presidential election in Belarus will be held in compliance with the country’s OSCE commitments, international obligations and the national legislation. “We are determined to hold transparent elections as it should be. I am confident that the Central Election Commission will invite OSCE/ODIHR observers. By the way, representatives of this organization are expected to visit Belarus soon,” the minister added.
