Polish MFA welcomes progress in relations with Belarus

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna met with Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Witold Waszczykowski in Warsaw on 19 July to discuss further development of relations between Belarus and Poland, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“The parties discussed further development of the bilateral relations, matters relating to the dialogue between Belarus and the EU, and regional issues,” the press service said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, for its part, said that Witold Waszczykowski expressed his satisfaction with the progress in normalization of the relations between Poland and Belarus. The diplomat specified that he spoke about “progress in all cooperation fields, not only political and parliamentary contacts.”

The strengthening of the sectoral dialogue that involves ministries concerned attests to a thaw in the relations between the two countries, the Polish diplomat noted. “In this context, we are particularly encouraged by the upcoming ceremony to sign an educational agreement scheduled for 20 July,” Witold Waszczykowski said.

The Polish diplomat once again extended an invitation to Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to visit Poland.

On 20 July, Warsaw will host political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Poland. The Belarusian delegation will be headed by Deputy Minister Alena Kupchyna. The Polish delegation will be led by Deputy Minister Marek Ziolkowski.
