MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Minsk will host the fifth session of Belarus-Uzbekistan intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation on 20 December, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 14 December, BelTA informs.
The sides will discuss the current state and prospects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, interaction in industry and equipment supplies. Special focus will be put on collaboration in agriculture, light and food industry, healthcare, education, culture, interaction between Belarus’ and Uzbekistan’s regions and business communities.
“The intergovernmental commission is expected to sign a protocol and a plan of action to intensify Belarus-Uzbekistan relations in politics, trade, economy, culture, and the humanitarian field in 2017-2018,” Dmitry Mironchik said.
The commission will be co-chaired by Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Nodir Otajonov.
The Uzbekistani delegation is scheduled to visit several mechanical engineering companies in Belarus and hold bilateral meetings with representatives of Belarusian government bodies.
Dmitry Mironchik pointed to a very positive momentum in Belarus-Uzbekistan trade and economic relations in 2017. In January-October 2017, bilateral trade reached $97.4 million, showing an almost twofold increase from the same period a year prior. Belarus’s exports totaled $70.4 million.
