MINSK, 13 October (BelTA) - The parliaments of Belarus and Azerbaijan intend to actively develop a forward-looking agenda for the development of relations between the two countries, Chairman of the Council Mikhail Myasnikovich told BelTA following the visit of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation headed by Chairman of the Milli Mejlis Oktay Asadov.

Mikhail Myasnikovich views the visit as very successful. “We discussed all the issues and most importantly we identified the prospects for the future,” the speaker said. “Parliaments should develop a forward-looking agenda. It is, first and foremost, about the economic security,” he noted. There are plans to engage scientific, intellectual potential of the two states and jointly develop new projects. They will be implemented on a bilateral basis, in international organizations or initiatives such as Belt and Road. The projects will also apply to the participation in international transportation, including through the transport corridor North-South, to high-tech manufactures.

Mikhail Myasnikovich recalled the positions on inter-parliamentary cooperation which were outlined by the Belarusian head of state during today's meeting with Oktay Asadov: Belarus would like to see concrete, constructive work of the international parliamentary organizations, including with regard to the monitoring of the decisions taken at the level of heads of state or government, individual ministries and departments. This will help to ensure that the decisions are implemented, Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan was in Belarus on a visit on 10-13 October. The MPs held talks with the speakers of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov to discuss the development of inter-parliamentary interaction, trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, and other topics of mutual interest.
