New PM Sergei Rumas introduced to Belarusian parliament

MINSK, 5 October (BelTA) - Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova introduced new Prime Minister Sergei Rumas to the House of Representatives on 5 October, BelTA has learned.

According to Natalya Kochanova, one of the priorities of the personnel policy is to form an efficient state apparatus able to ensure sustainable social and economic development of the country, quickly respond to present-day challenges and threats, take objective decisions in the interests of people and be accountable to people. “Keeping in mind these requirements, the head of state decided to appoint new government members,” said the head of the Belarus President Administration.

Speaking about Sergei Rumas, the head of the administration stressed that he is not a new person to the government. In 2010-2012 Sergei Rumas served as vice premier and supervised economic and financial matters. Sergei Rumas holds a Candidate of Economic Sciences degree. He previously headed the Development Bank and was in charge of export promotion, entrepreneurship and foreign investment. He also took an active part in the development of the EAEU documents.

“The tasks the head of state has set out before the new government are well known. The new prime minister and the government will need to ensure balanced development of the country and regions, the growth of well-being of citizens. One of the priority issues is high-quality preparation of the development forecasts for 2019 and subsequent years, including in constructive cooperation with the parliament,” Natalya Kochanova said.

Sergei Rumas addressed the MPs and answered their questions.

The House of Representatives has confirmed his appointment as the country’s prime minister.
