National Assembly to set up working group on Belarusians abroad

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – A working group on Belarusians abroad will be set up at the National Assembly of Belarus. The matter was discussed at the meeting of the Council of the House of Representatives on 7 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the parliament.

“The council decided to set up a working parliamentary group on Belarusians abroad,” the press service said.

The working group will be led by Chairman of the Standing Commission on Education, Culture and Science Igor Marzalyuk. The group will include House of Representatives MPs Olga Popko, Valentina Razhanets and Elena Anisim. They will also be joined by members of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament.

Today the House of Representatives have working groups on cooperation with certain countries. More than 70 friendship groups have been created so far.

A decision was also taken at the meeting to invite a parliamentary delegation of Oman in Belarus on an official visit.

In 2014 the National Assembly adopted a law on Belarusians abroad. The corresponding draft law was worked out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Culture Ministry with the participation of other ministries and departments. The document regulates the order of listing persons as Belarusians abroad and also measures of state support for this category of citizens.
