MPs hope to give momentum to Belarus-UK social projects

MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – MPs are determined to give a new impetus to social projects of Belarus and the United Kingdom, Chair of the Parliamentary Group on the UK of the National Assembly of Belarus, member of the Permanent Commission for International Relations and National Security of the Council of the Republic Oleg Rummo told reporters on 28 May, BelTA has learnt.

According to Oleg Rummo, the two countries can expand cooperative relations across a broad range of areas, including economy, finance and social projects. By the way, social projects have been implemented by Belarus and the UK for a long time already. “We can give a fresh impetus to our cooperation,” the senator said. Other promising areas for cooperation include science, medicine and culture. As Belarus is moving towards digital economy, it is important to strengthen international ties in IT. MPs can help promote bilateral cooperation across these areas, Oleg Rummo is convinced.

Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Belarus John Whittingdale expressed hope for vigorous development of cooperation with Belarusian MPs. He believes that the ongoing visit of the UK delegation to Belarus can help generate momentum for a number of initiatives.

On 28 May, the delegation met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich and held talks with members of the Parliamentary Group on the UK of the National Assembly of Belarus.
