MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is playing host to the national workshop on the measures of trade protection in the context of Belarus’ accession to the WTO, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.

The event has brought together more than 60 representatives of the national government bodies, concerns, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, administrations of the free economic zones. The event has been organized by the Ministry of Foreign Ministry jointly with the mission of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Belarus as part of the technical assistance project "Assisting the Government of the Republic of Belarus in Accession to the World Trade Organization through Strengthening National Institutional Capacity and Expertise”.

The workshop is also attended by representatives of the Rules Division of the World Trade Organization Secretariat, the department for protection of the internal market of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

The aim of the event is to raise the efficiency of the work of government bodies and organizations and marketing services of Belarusian enterprises participating in safeguard investigations in the EAEU and in investigations with respect of Belarusian products on the part of third countries.

The agenda of the workshop includes topical issues regarding the application of WTO procedures and rules in safeguard investigations, meetings of the relevant committees of the organization. The seminar will consider procedural aspects of safeguard investigations of the Eurasian Economic Commission in the Eurasian Economic Union. The workshop participants will be informed on the anti-dumping practices of the European Union and on the participation of Belarusian exporters in recent anti-dumping investigations conducted by the European Commission.
