MFA: Belarus in favor of strengthening disarmament and non-proliferation regime

MINSK, 9 August (BelTA) – Belarus has consistently supported the need to strengthen disarmament and non-proliferation regime, including in the field of biology, Nikolai Ovsyanko, deputy head of the international security and arms control department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, said when speaking at a session of the preparatory committee for the Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) in Geneva, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Belarus’ delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology.

In his statement, Nikolai Ovsyanko stressed that Belarus has the potential and developments in the field of bio-safety and is ready to join the efforts of the international community to strengthen confidence-building measures between the countries in the course of implementation of the BWC.

The participants were also briefed on the outcomes of the partnership review of the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1540, which was held in Minsk in August 2016.
