Makei: Belarus ready to provide all possible assistance to countries in need of help

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to provide all possible assistance to all countries that need it, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the talks with ICRC President Peter Maurer, BelTA has learned.

According to Vladimir Makei, the first experience of interaction between Belarus and the ICRC in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine was positive. “We are ready to provide help to everyone who needs it,” the minister stressed. According to him, the provision of humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian regions, children in Syria and other countries was discussed during the meeting between Peter Maurer and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

In turn, Peter Maurer welcomed Belarus’ friendly position towards Ukraine, support of its citizens in connection with the armed conflict in the east of the country. “This is an example what humanitarian response of a state should be. Of course, we want to continue our work and expand our activities in response to the crisis in Ukraine. Belarus is our important partner in resolving this and other conflicts around the world,” he said.

The ICRC president also drew attention to the fact that Belarus is an active member of many international and regional organizations. In this regard, the International Committee of the Red Cross is interested in closer cooperation with Belarus with a view to expanding interaction with these organizations.

In general, Peter Maurer praised the level of cooperation and partnership between the IRCR and Belarusian organizations and government agencies, including the Justice Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the Belarusian Red Cross Society. “Belarus is an example of how international humanitarian law is integrated and implemented in the society, in the Armed Forces. We want to disseminate Belarus’ experience around the world," he said.
