Lukashenko receives Bible in Belarusian as gift

MINSK, 15 October (BelTA) – Members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church gave Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko a copy of the Bible translated from Classical Greek into modern Belarusian as a gift, BelTA has learned.

According to Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Belarusian scientists worked on the project for 25 years. “That was very long, hard work. But scientists, including our clergy, have coped well with the task,” he said.

The Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church decided to nominate the group of translator for the Spiritual Revival Award. “We hope that the commission, which examines the nominations, will support our candidature,” the Metropolitan said.

The Belarusian president gave Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia the icon featuring Belarusian saints: Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Kirill of Turov and Valentina of Minsk on the back of the Holy Spirit Cathedral. The icon is made in wax tempera with the use of gilding, natural and semi-precious minerals.

In turn, the Patriarch gave Alexander Lukashenko the icon of the Mother of God of Vladimir and the medal celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Reestablishment of the Patriarchate
