Lukashenko: Decree No. 3 not abolished or suspended

MOGILEV, 21 March (BelTA) – Decree No. 3 “On preventing social dependency” has not been abolished or suspended, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he talked to Kronospan Company workers in Mogilev on 21 March, BelTA has learned.

“As unpopular as the decree is, I have neither abolished nor suspended it. The decree stays in force. The only thing I asked for was to put tax collection on hold for the people included in the relevant lists. Some of them were put on these lists unfairly. We will review all the lists. The deadline is 1 October,” the president remarked.

Alexander Lukashenko underlined that the situation when 300,000 to 350,000 are out of work while millions are occupied is wrong. “These 350,000 should work, but they do not. They do not bear any responsibilities,” the head of state noted. “I will not give up on this plan. We should have order in the country. It is time to put the employment in order too.”

Speaking about the favorable outcomes of the decree, the head of state mentioned that people began to value their jobs more and submit more requests to the employment service. “Decree No. 3 is a litmus test for the social sector. It has unveiled many negative issues. We will not abolish it, but we will adjust it in order not to offend people,” the Belarusian president said.
