Japan to ease up visa regulations for Belarusians as from 1 January

MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – Japan will simplify visa requirements for Belarus citizens as from 1 January 2018, representatives of the embassy of Japan in Belarus told BelTA.

According to the source, the changes have been prompted by the 25th anniversary since Belarusian-Japanese diplomatic relations were established. The changes will affect holders of regular passports and will come into effect on 1 January 2018.

The number of people, who can get multiple-entry short-term visas (up to 90 days), has been increased. Now such visas can be requested by travelers, who are intent on visiting Japan for business purposes, or travelers, who are people of intellectual work and culture.

The validity of multiple-entry short-term visas will be increased from three years to five years.

Visa applicants, who pay for their travel expenses on their own, will no longer have to provide guarantee documents, which were required for getting short-term visas in the past.

Representatives of the embassy of Japan in Belarus noted that the measures are designed to bolster bilateral relations, including interpersonal contacts. Once the changes are in effect, travel terms for businessmen and tourists will improve while the number of people, who visit Japan more than once, will increase. As a result, contacts between citizens of Japan and Belarus will be invigorated.
