EP Delegation for Relations with Belarus may visit Minsk in June

MINSK, 2 March (BelTA) – The European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Belarus may visit Minsk in June, European Parliament MP from Poland, Chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Belarus Bogdan Zdrojewski said in an interview to Belarus One TV channel, BelTA has learned.

According to Bogdan Zdrojewski, the official visit of the EP Delegation for Relations with Belarus is slated for June.

The European MP noted that “Belarus’ role in seeking a compromise between Moscow and Kiev is noticeable.” In his words, it gave a rise to expectations that the EU-Belarus relations would be rectified. “We still see the shortage of inter-parliamentary relations, but feel the atmosphere of possible changes. I think that the situation will change. We can take it from the visits to Minsk which number has recently increased,” Bogdan Zdrojewski said.

Besides, Bogdan Zdrojewski believes that Belarus and Poland need to develop cross-border cooperation.

European Parliament MP from Latvia, First Deputy Chairman of the EP Delegation for Relations with Belarus Andrei Mamykin told the Belarusian TV channel: “I would like to believe that there are sings for a thaw in relations.”

In his words, people that criticized Belarus some 10-15 years ago have turned their face to the country. “They are ready to offer their hand and talk. No doubt that the recent events in Ukraine, or rather the efforts of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to put an end to the conflict there, led to these changes,” the MP said. According to him, the Belarusian leader has done much more than others on the matter.
