MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The elections to the local Councils of Deputies are to take place in Belarus on 25 April 2010. Decree No. 21 “On the Elections to the Local Councils of Deputies of the Republic of Belarus of the 26th Convocation” was signed by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on 18 January, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.
The decree was drawn up and signed in line with the requirements of the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) was commissioned with a task to hold the elections to the local councils and make sure that the electoral law is observed during the elections.
Government bodies and other state-run organizations should prepare and hold the elections to the local Councils of Deputies within the deadlines designated by the Electoral Code of Belarus.
The election campaign will be financed by the national budget.
The decree comes into force on the day of its official publication.
