Dozens of Belarusian, Serbian cities maintain twinning relations

BELGRADE, 18 April (BelTA) – Twinning and partner relations are developed by 15 pairs of Belarusian and Serbian cities, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Serbia Vladimir Chushev told BelTA during the meeting of the business council on cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Belarus and Serbia which is underway in Belgrade.

Vladimir Chushev stressed that all the Belarusian oblast centers have agreements on cooperation with Serbian partners. Ties have been recently established between many regions of Belarus and Serbia, including between Minsk and Belgrade, Mogilev and Kragujevac, Gomel and Novi Sad, Grodno and Kraljevo, Vitebsk and Nis, Brest and Subotica, Borisov and Pozarevac, Zaslavl and Topola, Baranovichi and Cacak, Novopolotsk and Krusevac, Zhlobin and Smederevo, Molodechno and Valjevo, Polotsk and Sremska Mitrovica, Nesvizh District and Zemun neighborhood.

According to the Ambassador, cooperation between regions and cities is an important instrument of bilateral cooperation. This was also testified by the Days of Belgrade in Minsk last summer. Then the Belarusian capital was visited by the Belgrade Mayor and a delegation of businessmen that included representatives of 32 Serbian companies. Minsk played host to the Belarusian-Serbian business forum and a business matchmaking session. The two events helped expand contacts in different areas.

In May 2016 Belarusian companies demonstrated their products at the international exhibition in Novi Sad (the biggest event in the Balkans). The interest showed in Belarusian goods proved big prospects for their advancement onto the market.

The partner cities exchange business and administration delegations, organize tours for creative bands. Chambers of commerce and industry cooperate as well. For instance, cooperation agreements were signed between the Minsk and Gomel offices of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Vojvodina.

“Interregional contacts will be further intensified taking into account their big role in the development of the whole range of the Belarusian-Serbian cooperation,” the Ambassador is confident.
