Dmitry Zhuk appointed SB. Belarus Segodnya editor-in-chief

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has appointed Dmitry Zhuk Editor-in-Chief of the Belarus President Administration’s institution “Editors’ Office of the Sovetskaya Belorussiya Newspaper”, BelTA has learned.

“The major goal is to provide an unbiased fair coverage of the country’s life, to give the most objective information to the general public,” Dmitry Zhuk told the media.

In his words, this requires absolutely simple things, which are to listen to and hear, see and, most importantly, take into account the people’s interests. “This means making the newspaper, the editor-in-chief of which I has been appointed, in the interests of its readers, the Belarusians,” he stressed.

Dmitry Zhuk was born on 7 July 1970, in the village of Letkovshchina, Slutsk District, Minsk Oblast.

Education: Philology department of Belarusian State University in 1992; the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2013.

Career: a teacher of the Belarusian language and literature in school-gymnasium No.199 in Minsk, 1992-1993.

In journalism since 1993. Worked in various positions in the publishing and information center of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus; held the post of deputy director of the Interfax-Zapad news agency.

The head of the press service of the President of the Republic of Belarus from November 1999 to May 2003.

Appointed, by the president's decree, director general of the Belarusian Telegraph Agency BelTA on 2 May 2003.

Winner of special prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus in culture and art in 2005 and in 2016. Dmitry Zhuk was awarded the Medal for Labor Excellence in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of modern information technology and the Order of Honor for the great personal contribution to the implementation of the state information policy.
