Belarusian Mogilev, American Houston prolong partnership agreement

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – The agreement on partnering relations between the Belarusian city of Mogilev and the American city of Houston has been prolonged for two years. The relevant document was signed as a Belarusian delegation led by Mogilev Oblast Deputy Governor Viktor Nekrashevich visited the State of Texas, USA, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

The visit to the State of Texas is scheduled for 19-25 April. The Belarusian delegation visited Houston City Hall and held negotiations with Jack Christie, a member of the city council. As a result of the talks authorized representatives of the mayors of the Belarusian and American cities prolonged the Mogilev-Houston partnership agreement for two years. The agreement was signed in May 2014. Representatives of the Houston city administration were invited to visit Mogilev and the oblast. Negotiations in Houston City Hall continued at the level of heads of the departments in charge of capital construction, road construction, and water services.

Apart from that, a seminar involving representatives of the U.S. Department of State, the city administration, and interested companies took place at premises of the Houston Technology Center. Participants of the forum were informed about the current state and prospects of developing Belarusian-American relations and Belarus’ cooperation with the State of Texas. The head of the Belarusian delegation presented the opportunities involved in trade, economic, and investment cooperation with Mogilev Oblast and highlighted a number of investment projects.

The Belarusian delegation met with top executives of the Houston division of the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States of America.

While in Texas members of the Belarusian delegation are also expected to visit the cities of Austin and Dallas for the sake of meeting with top administrators of the state and the cities, representatives of industrial and agricultural enterprises, and universities. A ceremony will be held to establish the Belarus-Texas business cooperation council.

The Belarusian delegation includes representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Belarus in the USA, heads of the Mogilev city administration and the city administration departments, including those responsible for the production sector, automobile industry, civil engineering, and agriculture.
