MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko talked to Lithuanian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Darius Skusevicius to discuss the issues raised by Lithuania due to the construction of the nuclear power plant in Belarus, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.
Apart from stating there is a number of essential differences of opinion in Belarusian and Lithuanian views on the matter the Belarusian deputy minister of foreign affairs said that the necessary measures had been taken to ensure safety in the course of construction and future operation of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Measures had also been taken to honor international commitments and ensure Belarus’ interaction with the relevant international organizations, including cooperation with the IAEA.
Oleg Kravchenko said that a peer review of results of the stress tests of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is nearing completion. The peer review has been arranged voluntarily by Belarus in accordance with the procedure approved by the European Commission.
Apart from that, Oleg Kravchenko and Darius Skusevicius discussed the state of affairs and prospects of advancing Belarus’ interaction with the European Union, Belarusian-Lithuanian relations. The sides mentioned the mutual interest in maintaining a high level of economic interaction. They stressed the importance of regularly holding Belarusian-Lithuanian economic forums. The 14th forum in the series will take place in Vitebsk on 7-8 June 2018.
