Belarusian Interior Ministry, Abu Dhabi police to advance cooperation

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian Interior Ministry and the General Staff of the Abu Dhabi Police have signed a memorandum of understanding in cooperation in crime control, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Interior Ministry website.

The document was signed as a UAE police delegation led by Abu Dhabi Police Chief Mohamed Khalfan Al Romaithi met with Belarusian Interior Minister Igor Shunevich and Head of the Interior Ministry Academy Vladimir Bachila.

Igor Shunevich remarked that thanks to the dynamics of political contacts between the two countries a solid foundation for a fruitful dialogue based on mutual trust and respect had been laid down. “One can say with confidence that the bilateral relations in law enforcement have reached the level of strategic cooperation. Training UAE personnel in Belarus remains an important avenue of cooperation. It has been done since 2006 and is an example to follow,” stressed the Belarusian interior minister.

Representatives of the UAE police thanked Belarusian colleagues for many years of effective cooperation and for well-organized education. They noted that the signing of the memorandum of understanding is a new stage in efforts to bolster partnership between the two agencies.

Members of the UAE delegation were made familiar with education opportunities, including short-term courses, as they visited the Interior Ministry Academy and the international center for training, career enhancement, and retraining of personnel specializing in migration and the counteraction of trafficking in persons.

The UAE delegation also met with representatives of the State Forensic Examination Committee. While in Belarus they are expected to visit the SWAT base of the Minsk City Police Department and the base of the Belarusian Interior Ministry’s counterterrorism team Almaz for the sake of getting familiar with opportunities for educating UAE police personnel in various areas of combat training.
