Belarusian held captive in Libya returns home

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) - Vyacheslav Kachura, the last of the Belarusian citizens who were forcibly held in Libya by one of the so-called revolutionary brigades since August 2011, returned home on 2 February, BelTA has learned.

Vyacheslav Kachura arrived in Minsk by a flight from Moscow. At the airport he was met by his son and daughter, representative of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and journalists.

He was held in captivity for more than six years. All these years this problem was in the focus of attention of the Belarusian side.

According to Alexander Lukashevich, the Deputy Head of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, the release of Vyacheslav Kachura was made possible through the hard work and assistance of Belarus’ friends from many countries.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus expresses its gratitude to the partners who contributed to the solution of all issues related to the release and return of our citizen,” the diplomat said.

For his part, Vyacheslav Kachura said that he was very happy to see his family. The first thing he plans to do is to restore the documents and undergo a medical examination.
