Belarusian Finance Ministry told to work harder with international financial organizations

MINSK, 6 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian Finance Ministry should step up work with international financial organizations. The statement was made by Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich as he introduced new Finance Minister Vladimir Amarin to the Ministry personnel on 6 November, BelTA has learned.

“No doubt, we need very active work with international financial organizations, insurance funds, and other corporations. Because as a sovereign state Belarus should be naturally integrated into the world financial system,” stressed the Prime Minister. Mikhail Myasnikovich underlined that the state of affairs was not perfect yet: “You may lack knowledge or experience in some things but this work has to be done”.

The Prime Minister emphasized that a very powerful system has to be built to allow Belarus to borrow money on advantageous terms and to play on the international capital market. The Prime Minister advised considering enhancing the division that deals with these matters as well as stepping up efforts across the board.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also drew attention to the fact that the Finance Ministry should more tightly control municipal finances. “Although our oblast administrations and the Minsk City Hall are rather independent in making their decisions in accordance with the effective legislation, but it seems to me that the financial top-down command structure has to be built in accordance with even stricter rules,” stressed the Prime Minister. “We, in the center, should see how effectively every state ruble is spent. Because it is the money of our tax payers”. Mikhail Myasnikovich spoke in favor of a measured and balanced approach to making decisions on spending state budget funds.

The head of government remarked that the area of expertise the Finance Ministry will have to take care of under the guidance of Vladimir Amarin is very complicated. He said he was confident that the new leadership of the Finance Ministry can do the job.

In turn, Vladimir Amarin stated that the Finance Ministry’s work with the state budget was focused on objectiveness and impartiality for the sake of observing the law unconditionally. “I think we will pay even more attention to these areas of work. In the future the bulk of our efforts will be related to the modernization of the system of state finances for the sake of bringing it up to date with the best international practices,” noted Vladimir Amarin.
