Belarus, Uruguay working on package of agreements to boost trade

Belarus, Uruguay working on package of agreements to boost tradeMINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – A package of Belarus-Uruguay agreements to intensify trade and economic cooperation is in the works, Ambassador of Uruguay to Russia and concurrently to Belarus Enrique Juan Delgado Genta noted at a stamp dedication ceremony to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Belarus-Uruguay diplomatic relations on 15 November, BelTA has learned.

“We are actively working on a mutual investment protection agreement and an agreement to set up a joint commission for trade and economic cooperation. We intend to give a strong impetus to Belarus-Uruguay business contacts and thus bring our relations to a new level,” Ambassador Enrique Juan Delgado Genta said.

The sides are also drafting agreements on military and technical cooperation, and also on interaction in agriculture, the field where Belarus and Uruguay have made great progress. “We are working hard to develop a good legal framework of our relations to help us carry out successful bilateral projects,” the ambassador added.

Belarus views Uruguay as a crucial partner in Mercosur, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov noted. “Belarus and Uruguay have come a long way of transformation from establishing diplomatic relations and creating the initial legal framework to fostering concrete trade and economic cooperation, and interaction between ministries of foreign affairs. Today we are pretty much satisfied with the current momentum in our relations. We will continue to develop political, trade, economic, and humanitarian cooperation,” Yevgeny Shestakov stated.
