Belarus, Ukraine consider granting visa-free entry to international passport holders only

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Ukraine are in talks over granting visa-free entry to international passport holders only. For Belarusians there will be no changes, BelTA learned from spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik.

Belarus and Ukraine are discussing possible adjustments to the visa-free travel agreement between the governments of the two countries. Dmitry Mironchik said that the parties have already held an initial round of talks. “Belarus and Ukraine are currently in talks over granting visa-free entry only to holders of international passports that comply with ICAO standards and allow for reliable and prompt monitoring of entry, exit and stay. Apart from the content of the document, the parties also consider the timeline for the transition period that would make the transition to the new visa regime as smooth as possible,” Dmitry Mironchik explained.

He noted that for Belarusian citizens there will be no changes since Belarusian national passports are valid for travel abroad.

The next round of talks is expected to take place in Kiev in May 2016.
