Belarus, Turkey to develop cooperation in polar research

MINSK, 5 November (BelTA) – Scientists of Belarus and Turkey plan to develop cooperation in polar research. The matter was discussed in Ankara on 5 November during the first meeting of the joint Belarusian-Turkish commission on cooperation in science and technology, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Turkey.

Attending the meeting was Deputy Head of the National Center for Polar Research at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus - Head of the Belarusian Antarctic Expedition Alexei Gaidashov. It is planned that the Belarusian polar expedition will go from Istanbul to Antarctica on 8 November. “Belarus suggests cooperation with 2-3 members of the Turkish Polar Research Center at the Belarusian station in 2019,” the embassy said.

The parties signed a protocol to determine priority areas in scientific and technical cooperation. A competition has been announced for joint innovative science and technology projects and a procedure has been defined for approving the list of such projects for 2019-2021.

According to the diplomatic mission, the first meeting of the joint Belarusian-Turkish commission on cooperation in science and technology between the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus and the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Turkey is underway on 5-6 November. The Belarusian delegation includes representatives of the National Academy of Sciences, the Belarusian Innovation Fund and technology parks. The delegation is headed by Deputy Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee Sergei Shcherbakov.

On 6 November Belarusian representatives will visit leading technoparks of Ankara.
