Belarus to provide platform for dialogue on EU-EEU common economic space

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to provide a platform for the dialogue on the common economic space of the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. The statement was made by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei during the press conference held on 29 June after the fifth informal dialogue of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Eastern Partnership Initiative participating countries, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei noted that Belarus is ready to make its own contribution to the process and provide a platform for the dialogue taking into account the country’s participation in the Eastern Partnership Initiative simultaneously with the Eurasian Economic Union membership.

The formation of such space in the future will allow avoiding new dividing lines, the Minister said. Vladimir Makei stressed that the dialogue between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union is very important for harmonizing the two key integration processes and for forming the common economic space in the future when it is possible.

The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs also emphasized that it is necessary to establish a dialogue with neighbors of the neighbors, primarily with Russia. In his words, it is necessary for the sake of reaching the fundamental goals of the Eastern Partnership Initiative such as peace, stability, security, and prosperity in the region.
