Belarus to present Voluntary National Review on SDGs at UN high-level political forum

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) - Marianna Shchetkina, Deputy Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, National Coordinator for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, will present Belarus’ Voluntary National Review of the progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the UN headquarters in New York on 18 July, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic.

Marianna Shchetkina is attending the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development to discuss ways to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were adopted by UN Member States at the UN summit in September 2015. “Voluntary national reviews on the achievement of SDGs will be presented during the forum. Belarus will present such report for the first time,” the press service informed.

On 17 July Marianna Shchetkina attended the opening ceremony of the Ministerial Segment of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), held bilateral meetings with the heads of the delegations of the participating countries and UN officials, gave an interview to the Russian-language service of the UN Radio.

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is running at the UN headquarters in New York on 10-19 July. Among its participants are over 70 ministers from different countries, and approximately 2,400 representatives of the civil society. Some 44 states will submit the Voluntary National Reviews to report on progress and challenges related to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals.
