Belarus to lay out its position on fight against human trafficking at OSCE Mediterranean Conference

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Kravchenko will lay out Belarus’ position on the fight against trafficking in human beings at the annual OSCE Mediterranean Conference to be held in Palermo, Italy on 24-25 October, spokesperson for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing, BelTA has learned.

Oleg Kravchenko will speak in the capacity of rapporteur during the thematic session on the increased risks for smuggling and trafficking in human beings arising from large movements of refugees and migrants.

“Oleg Kravchenko will also hold a series of meetings with heads of delegations of other OSCE participating states,” Dmitry Mironchik informed.

During the conference the delegations will discuss security issues in the Mediterranean region in the context of the migration crisis, and the fight against human trafficking and discrimination. “Our country is in the forefront of international efforts to fight trafficking in persons and is an initiator of a number of the relevant decisions adopted in the UN and other regional organizations,” the spokesman said.
