Belarus to cooperate with Mozambique, Namibia in countering crime

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – The Interior Ministry of Belarus will cooperate with Mozambique and Namibia in countering crime. The corresponding documents were signed during the visit of the Belarusian delegation led by Interior Minister Igor Shunevich to the abovementioned countries, BelTA learned from the Interior Ministry of Belarus.

At the meeting President of Mozambique Filipe Nyusi and Igor Shunevich exchanged information on the social and political situation and the overall level of security in the states. Igor Shunevich stated that the Belarusian-Mozambican relations have been recently showing momentum in various fields, as a result of the growing contacts at a high level. “To strengthen them, Belarus is ready to build constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Mozambique in the law enforcement sector: from training the police personnel and exchanging working experience to the material and technical support of police stations,” the Interior Ministry said.

After the working meeting Igor Shunevich and Mozambican Interior Minister Jaime Monteiro signed a bilateral agreement on cooperation in combating crimes. The document will help the parties to fulfill requests for assistance, conduct coordinated investigative and preventive measures, exchange various kinds of information, train and improve the qualification of the personnel. “The signing of the agreement proves that it is high time we built up the anti-criminal potential of our countries. This will help us find new promising areas for mutually beneficial cooperation,” the minister said.

The Belarusian delegation also met with Director General of the National Criminal Investigation Service of Mozambique Ilidio Jose Miguel. The parties exchanged working experience. The parties also agreed to establish cooperation between the departments.

In Namibia, the head of the Belarusian Interior Ministry met with President of Namibia Hage Geingob. The memorandum of understanding between Belarus and Namibia on cooperation in combating crime was signed following the meeting of Igor Shunevich with Minister of Safety and Security of Namibia Charles Namoloh. The parties discussed the development and strengthening of bilateral relations, and also outlined the priority areas and forms of interaction, including personnel training. “The Interior Ministry of Belarus has considerable experience and an efficient system of training officers for law enforcement agencies of foreign countries. We are ready to discuss this vector of cooperation,” Igor Shunevich said.
