MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – Representatives of the Vietnamese justice system informed colleagues from Belarus about the operation of the court on family cases and cases involving the underage, the press service of the Supreme Court of Belarus told BelTA after the meeting.
A court to deal with family and underage cases was established in Vietnam in 2015. The court is meant to deal with matters concerning families and crimes committed by teenagers. Apart from that, the court also looks into violations of rights of children and teenagers. Deputy Presiding Judge of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam, Presiding Judge of the Central Military Court, Major-General Nguyen Van Hanh noted that the court’s performance had been appreciated by Vietnamese judges and international bodies. Proceedings in this court represent a radical departure from the standard court procedures. Underage citizens are invited for kind of a roundtable meeting. This form of interaction with young people, who have made an error due to various reasons, is very effective. It has an educational effect on the underage by helping them fix the already committed errors and forestalling future ones.
First Deputy Presiding Judge of the Supreme Court of Belarus Valery Kalinkovich informed the guests about results of the justice system’s reform in Belarus. Since the Vietnamese delegation represented military courts, Valery Kalinkovich told them why Belarusian military courts were dismantled in July 2014. “Military courts always had to deal with a small number of cases. At present oblast courts and district courts are authorized to deal with the disputes, which military courts used to take care of. The Supreme Court can hear out appeals and exercise oversight functions in these cases,” said the official. The Vietnamese delegation was also made familiar with plans to further develop the Belarusian court system.
