The treaty was signed in Minsk on 26 August 2013. It provides for legal assistance by relevant bodies of the two states in criminal matters including pre-trial investigation, criminal prosecution, and judicial settlement. The implementation of the treaty will help the two states joint their efforts against international organized criminal activity.
In particular, legal assistance means collection of evidence and reception of claims, provision of information, documents, and material evidence, identification and location of people and objects, presentation of documents, cooperation in delivery of the accused and other people for giving evidence and assisting in investigation, cooperation in crime detection, detention, and confiscation of proceeds of crime, etc.
Participating in the implementation of the treaty on behalf of Belarus will be the Investigation Committee, the Prosecutor General's Office, and the State Security Committee (KGB), and on behalf of Sri Lanka – the Ministry of Justice.
