Belarus, Slovenia intend to intensify bilateral political dialogue

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - An agreement on intensifying and raising the level of political dialogue between Belarus and Slovenia was concluded during a visit of Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alena Kupchyna to Slovenia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Alena Kupchyna met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Karl Erjavec. The parties discussed the status of implementation of the agreements reached following Karl Erjavec’s official visit to Belarus in March 2016. Particular attention was paid to intensify bilateral economic and investment cooperation.

“Taking into account Belarus’ Presidency in the CEI in 2017 the parties discussed cooperation of the two countries in the regional organization with a focus on project activities. An agreement was reached to intensify and raise the level of political dialogue between the two countries,” the press service noted.

Alena Kupchyna also met with Chairman of the Slovenia-Belarus friendship group in the Slovenian Parliament Marko Ferluga and Chairman of the Commission on International Cooperation Jozef Horvat to discuss the ways to intensify inter-parliamentary contacts and regional cooperation.

The Belarusian Deputy Minister briefed Marko Ferluga on the parliamentary campaign in Belarus, for the observation of which Belarus invited representatives of reputable international organizations. The parties agreed to engage parliamentary diplomacy to strengthen relations between Belarus and Slovenia in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian areas, and also cooperation in international organizations which the two countries are part of.

As co-chair of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Slovenian commission for cooperation in trade, economy and science Alena Kupchyna met with Slovenian co-chair - Director-General of the Directorate for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tomaz Lovrencic.

Ljubljana hosted the first session of the Belarusian-Slovenian working group on agriculture and the consultations between the Belarusian National Agency for Investment and Privatization and Slovenian Investment Agency SPIRIT.

Alena Kupchyna met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia Darja Bavdaz Kuret to consider the issues on the Belarusian-Slovenian agenda, the ways of promoting the dialogue between Belarus and the EU, collaboration in international organizations, and also promising joint events with the support of the Development Fund of the Slovenian MFA. The Slovenian side informed Belarus of its decision to prolong the current bilateral program on healthcare rehabilitation of Belarusian children in Slovenia till 2021. The program was launched in 2012, in line with the relevant intergovernmental agreement.
