Belarus’ Shklov plans to twin with Japan’s Takeo

MOGILEV, 30 October (BelTA) – The town of Shklov (Belarus) and Takeo (Japan) intend to sign a twinning agreement. The statement was made during a meeting between Deputy Mogilev Oblast Governor Viktor Nekrashevich with Deputy Takeo Mayor Masaji Kitagawa on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

Mogilev Oblast has laid certain groundwork in cooperation with Japan. The region is ready to supply food products, export Mogilev-made textile and elevators, Bobruisk-made tires, and other competitive products. “We also hope that Japanese businessmen will show interest in our proposals to launch business projects in Mogilev Oblast. We can provide all the necessary conditions, including the whole range of preferences that may be of interest to investors,” Viktor Nekrashevich said.

He drew attention to the interest of Mogilev Oblast in investment cooperation. With this in mind, a project to set up a Belarusian-Japanese industrial zone has been worked out in the FEZ Mogilev. The zone is expected to put the main focus on the production of components for vehicles. “We are open to cooperation in education, tourism, and culture, which will help us strengthen our relations and friendship between the nations,” the deputy governor noted.

In turn, Masaji Kitagawa expressed interest in boosting mutually beneficial interregional cooperation with Mogilev Oblast and Shklov District, in particular. “This is our first visit to Belarus. We are impressed with your country, first of all, with your beautiful nature and hospitable people. The development of tourism may become an important avenue of bilateral cooperation along with the economic one,” he remarked.

During the two-day visit, the Japanese delegation visited industrial enterprises, social facilities, and landmarks of Mogilev. They are set to visit the Domostroeniye company affiliated with the state-run Shklov Newsprint Plant, the agrotown of Alexandria (Shklov District), and hold talks on strengthening cooperation with the Shklov District Executive Committee.
