MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) - The Council of the Republic of the National Assmebly of Belarus has approved a draft law on the ratification of the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Serbia on military and related technical cooperation, BelTA informs.

The agreement was signed in Minsk in January 2017. According to Deputy Chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee Gennady Smolsky, the agreement is aimed at creating favorable conditions for the operation of the organizations of the Belarusian defense sector on the arms market of Serbia. In his words, the adoption of the law on the ratification of the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Serbia on military and related technical cooperation will contribute to the creation of favorable conditions for mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation, promotion of military products of domestic production.

The document outlines major areas of cooperation. In particular, it includes joint projects on new types of weapons and military equipment, production, modernization, overhaul and supplies of military equipment, weapons, optical devices, special purpose equipment, specialists exchange and training, professional development of the armed forces and specialists. If needed, the authorized bodies (the State Military Industrial Committee on Belarus’ behalf and the Ministry of Defense on Serbia’s behalf) can conclude additional, set up a joint commission on military and technical cooperation and develop an action plan in the sector.

The Council of the Republic also approved the draft laws on introducing amendments and additions to some laws on state benefits to families with children, on the ratification of the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Pakistan on air communication, on introducing amendments and additions to the law "On motor transport and automobile Transportation". The Council of the Republic approved the draft laws on the ratification of the agreement between Belarus and the UAE on mutual protection of classified information, ratification of the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Moldova on the mutual trade facilitation system, on investment funds, on the ratification of the loan agreement (water program) between Belarus and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
