Belarus-Russia Union State working on new post-Chernobyl recovery program

TULA, 6 July (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia Union State is busy working out a new post-Chernobyl recovery program, State Secretary of Union State Grigory Rapota told the media on 6 July, BelTA has learned.

He recalled that the Union State has carried out a number of relevant programs using budget funds. “Everyone is set to continue this work,” the state secretary said.

According to him, the implementation of such programs helps fulfill multiple tasks at a time. First of all, such projects help adults and children recover from radiation exposure. Three specialized centers (one in Gomel and two in Russia) have been accumulating scientific and practical data on the health effect of radionuclides.

Grigory Rapota added that all Union State Chernobyl programs are comprehensive. They involve the participation of the Belarusian and Russian health ministries, emergencies ministries, and meteorologists.

The Belarusian and Russian journalists met with Grigory Rapota in Tula as part of the press tour arranged by the Union State Standing Committee and the international news agency Russia Today.
