Belarus, Russia discuss trade, common dairy market

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats and Russian Ambassador to Belarus Alexander Surikov met on 27 April to discuss mutual trade and regulation of the common dairy market of Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from Aleksei Bogdanov, Head of the Central Office for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

The parties discussed bilateral trade, and trade in dairy products in particular.

“The ambassador emphasized Russia’s problem with palm oil and a big number of counterfeit products. The parties considered approaches necessary to regulate the common dairy market in line with the existing legislation. They also highlighted the need to adjust it through the reduction of the imports of palm oil, cheese products and an exchange group of dairy products from third countries, which will help level off this segment of the market,” said Aleksei Bogdanov.

The Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry will continue the dialogue with the Russian Ministry of Agriculture. The parties are expected to coordinate the forecast demand and supply balance sheets in the near future. Belarus is determined to keep the volume of its supplies to Russia at the level of 2017.
