Belarus, Poland intend to boost trade up to $4bn

MINSK, 25 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Poland plan to ramp bilateral trade up to $4 billion in the near future, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevgeny Shestakov told the media following the fifth session of the Belarusian-Polish working group on trade and investment on 25 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have set a task to increase bilateral trade up to $4 billion in the near future. We understand we will have to work hard, remove the existing obstacles, and constantly direct our business, engage it in the development of trade between countries,” Yevgeny Shestakov said.

In his words, the latest statistics show that Belarus-Poland trade has been recovering amid improving economic situation and growing demand for Belarusian products. The bilateral trade almost reached $1.6 billion in January-August 2017. The Belarusian exports made up some $700 million, up 19% over this period of time.

The deputy minister believes that the two countries have not realized the full potential of economic cooperation so far. They are to carry out numerous mutually beneficial projects. This means that the initiatives of both business communities should get support from Belarusian and Polish government bodies and agencies, Yevgeny Shestakov underlined.

The working group has touched upon a wide range of matters of bilateral cooperation, from transport and logistics to standardization and insurance. The sides have also exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation in integration associations: the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
