Belarus, Latvia interested in anti-corruption cooperation

MINSK, 11 July (BelTA) - The law enforcement agencies of Belarus and Latvia are interested in cooperation in combating corruption, reads a statement posted on the website of the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office following the meeting with the Latvian parliamentary delegation led by Ainars Latkovskis, the chairman of the defense, internal affairs and corruption prevention committee of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, BelTA has learned.

The parties exchanged information on the status and prospects of cooperation between the law enforcement agencies. Emphasis was placed on the fundamental approaches to countering corruption. Belarus’ Deputy Prosecutor General Alexander Lashin stressed that corruption remains a serious problem for any state and is acquiring international dimension. An effective fight against corruption is possible providing there is an understanding that this goal is common for law enforcement agencies around the world. Alexander Lashin took note of the significant progress made in Belarus in combating corruption in recent years and expressed the willingness to share experiences.

For his part, Ainars Latkovskis thanked the Belarusian side for the warm reception and expressed the hope for further cooperation.
