Belarus, Latvia agree to develop cooperation in air defense

MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Latvia have agreed to develop cooperation in the field of air defense, BelTA learned from the website of the newspaper For Glory of the Motherland.

Oleg Dvigalev, Commander of Air Forces and Air Defense Troops, paid a visit to Latvia. The parties discussed the prospects of military cooperation in the area of air and air defense forces. A number of important documents were signed at the meeting. Among them is an agreement signed by the Defense Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Defense of Latvia on the exchange of information on flights, and also the instruction on the interaction of the central control points of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus and the Air Force of Latvia.

The military agencies of the two countries are convinced that the signing and implementation of the provisions of the agreement and instructions will contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of protecting the state borders of Belarus and Latvia in the airspace. The agreement will also help improve the control over the airspace use during aircraft flights near the state border and at its crossing. The step is aimed at strengthening confidence between the states and regional security.
