GOMEL, 8 December (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov offered Russia to remove bottlenecks to settle the issues of bilateral cooperation as he met with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev. The meeting is taking place in the run-up to the Belarus-Russia Union State Council of Ministers, BelTA informs.

Active bilateral contacts have been bringing certain results, including in trade and economy, Andrei Kobyakov said. “Today we met one-on-one ahead of the session of the Council of Ministers to remove the existing bottlenecks. This will help us deal with the emerging problems of bilateral cooperation and move forward in the areas which we view as important,” the Belarusian PM said. In his words, today’s work of the Union State Council of Ministers should be commended by business, government bodies, and Belarusian and Russian citizens.

Dmitry Medvedev suggested exchanging opinions on the main avenues of bilateral cooperation.

Andrei Kobyakov and Dmitry Medvedev visited the National Scientific and Practical Center for Medical Radiology and Human Ecology in Gomel on 8 December. “This is a good example of our cooperation within the framework of the Union State,” Dmitry Medvedev remarked. The work of the center is especially important given the fact that regions of both countries were affected by the Chernobyl accident.
