MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) - The Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) decided to raise the status of the ITU Area Office for the CIS and Georgia to the level of the regional office, BelTA learned from Belarus’ Communications and Informatization Ministry.
The initiative to enhance the status of the office was put forward by Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov during a meeting with ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao as he visited Belarus in April 2017.
Enhancing the status of the office, implies, among other things, an increase in funding of its operational activities in part of implementation of projects and regional initiatives, including those of Belarus. Reforming of the office is expected to be completed by 2019.
