Belarus’ Grodno Oblast, Chinese Fujian Province to bolster ties

GRODNO, 6 August (BelTA) – Belarus’ Grodno Oblast and the Chinese province of Fujian will actively develop cooperation. The protocol of intent to establish friendly relations was signed during a meeting between a Chinese delegation and the Grodno Oblast administration in Grodno on 6 August, BelTA has learned.

“This is an important step towards the rapprochement of our regions and our countries. Fujian Province has a well-developed industrial sector: electronics, engineering and others. We know that Grodno Oblast is a very strong region in terms of agriculture. This is just one of the many complementing areas where we can develop cooperation,” Liang Jianyong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, the head of the delegation said during the meeting.

“Dairy products of the local processing companies have already been certified to export to the Chinese market. Deliveries have already begun. The process of certification of the meat processing enterprises is currently underway. The Belarusian flax linen, woodworking products are in demand in the Chinese market,” Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov said. In his words, China is implementing a number of investment projects in Grodno Oblast. During the meeting the Chinese representatives expressed readiness to increase investment in the region. The areas of interests are many: from nuclear power to high technologies.

Transport and logistics are also viewed among the most important areas of cooperation. The regions are connected by China-Europe rail route which starts in Fujian Province and goes through Grodno.

“Our regions differ very much in climate and landscape. Such a difference has always been a stimulus for tourism interest. Every year over 4 million residents of Fujian Province travel abroad. It would be great if some part of them visited Grodno Oblast,” Liang Jianyong said. He stressed that China is also interested in cooperation in the cultural and education affairs.

The Grodno Oblast administration hosts the photo exhibition titled as Fujian’s Refreshing Breeze.
