SCC Chairman Yuri Senko had a meeting with Vakhtang Lashkaradze, Deputy Director General of the Revenue Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry. According to Yuri Senko, the search for and introduction of up-to-date border control technologies is a vital element of the image of the transit state. “In light of the rapidly changing approaches to international trade, the country interested in attracting trade flows should be attractive for carriers,” he added. A Belarus-Georgia intergovernmental agreement on a mutual trade promotion system was signed during the meeting.

The two customs services also adopted a plan of cooperation in personnel training for 2018-2019 between the State Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining of Customs Officials and the Human Resources Management Department of Georgia’s Finance Ministry.

The participants of the meeting talked about the facilitation of customs procedures, transition to modern information technologies, and the advantages for authorized economic operators related with the Customs Code of the Eurasian Economic Union coming into force on 1 January 2018. The Belarusian and Georgian customs officials exchanged experience in passport control at border checkpoints and passenger control at airports.

“Such meetings between Belarus’ customs authorities and foreign colleagues have become a regular practice. They help establish contacts, improve the work of customs services monitoring trans-border trafficking, share positive experience in personnel training, and also exchange information to prevent the illegal trafficking in narcotics, psychotropic substances, and effectively counter smuggling,” the SCC said.
