Belarus, Georgia review trade, economic cooperation

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – The implementation of Belarus-Georgia agreements on trade, economic, and industrial cooperation was discussed during a meeting between Belarusian Ambassador to Georgia Mikhail Myatlikov and Dimitri Kumsishvili, Georgian First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, co-chairman of the Belarusian-Georgian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian embassy in Georgia.

“The sides discussed Belarus-Georgia trade and economic cooperation, the progress in the implementation of high- and highest-level agreements on joint projects in construction and industrial cooperation, and on supplies of agricultural, food, machine-building, and other products,” the embassy said. The sides also coordinated the approaches to the further work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission and reviewed the preparations for its fourth session in Minsk.

In 2016, Belarus-Georgia trade reached $73.2 million, up 63% from 2015 (Belarus’ export totaled $57.4 million, up 2.6 times). The bilateral trade amounted to $67.1 million in January-August 2017, up 29.8% from the same period a year ago (the export reached $55.5 million, up 31.5%).

Belarus’ major exports to Georgia are railcars, trucks, dairy products, synthetic fibers, medicines, furniture, sausage products, sugar, malt, and wood processing products. Georgia exports to Belarus mineral water, wine, strong alcoholic beverages, nuts, ferroalloys, spices, vegetables, fruits, tea, and other goods.
