Belarus counts on Latvia in search for Scandinavian investments

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Belarus counts on Latvia’s support in efforts to attract capital from Scandinavian countries. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the statement as he met with a delegation of the Latvian parliament on 3 October, BelTA has learned. The Latvian parliament delegation was led by Deputy Speaker Gundars Daudze.

In turn, the Belarusian side can enable favorable conditions for investors in the country, in particular, in pharmaceutics, biotechnology, and other cutting-edge areas.

Speaking about ways to attract Scandinavian capital, Gundars Daudze mentioned that cooperation in transit and logistics looks promising because transport traffic flows between Scandinavia and Eastern Europe via Riga.

The sides also discussed new opportunities, which are opening up thanks to Belarus’ participation in China’s Belt and Road initiative. Prospects of investment cooperation and cooperation in business projects were also discussed. At present there are nearly 2,500 companies with Belarusian capital in Latvia. In turn, Latvian businessmen have established over 1,000 companies in Belarus.
