Belarus attends session of UN Commission on the Status of Women

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valentin Rybakov took part in the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the UN Headquarters in New York, BelTA has learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Valentin Rybakov moderated the discussion at the ministerial-level round table on the theme “Technology changing the world of work: how can technology and innovation be harnessed to accelerate women’s economic empowerment?” He also took part as a speaker in another ministerial roundtable discussion on the theme “Informal and non-standard work: what policies can effectively support women’s economic empowerment?”.

The Belarusian diplomat informed the participants of the national measures taken in Belarus for economic empowerment of women. Valentin Rybakov noted that the Belarusian government has approved the fifth National Action Plan for Gender Equality 2020 in order to implement the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development with respect to gender equality.

Valentin Rybakov stressed that gender equality is an important factor for consistent and sustainable development of any society. In this regard, he drew attention to the need of providing opportunity for women to raise their qualifications throughout their lives, stimulating entrepreneurial initiative of women, reaching pay equality between women and men, and adopting government family support and child care programs.

The Belarusian diplomat drew attention of the participants to the role of the family and traditional values as an important factor of sustainable development.
