Photo by the Ministry of Justice of BelarusMINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Afghanistan will advance cooperation in the sphere of justice as stipulated by the memorandum of understanding that Belarusian Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky and Afghan Justice Minister Abdul Basir Anwar signed in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The document was signed as a result of the agreement the two ministers reached during the fourth conference of the justice ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states in Kazakhstan in October 2016. The memorandum establishes the legal foundation for future cooperation. In particular, the document will allow Belarusian and Afghan experts to exchange information about legislation improvement and legislation enforcement. More effective interaction at multilateral international platforms will be established.

Oleg Slizhevsky and Abdul Basir Anwar mentioned the importance of determining mechanisms of cooperation in the sphere of international legal aid. The sides are interested in working to sign agreements on mutual legal aid in civil and criminal cases. According to Oleg Slizhevsky, enabling legal conditions for interaction between experts of the two ministries should lead to the establishment of international treaty relations in providing mutual legal aid.

Cooperation between the Belarusian and Afghan justice ministries will, on the whole, contribute to stronger relations between the countries.
