16+1 format to open new cooperation prospects for Belarus

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) – New prospects of cooperation are opening up before Belarus in view of the accession to the 16+1 format (Central and Eastern Europe countries plus China). Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration Nikolai Snopkov made the statement during the session of the Belarusian-Chinese intergovernmental committee on cooperation on 18 August, BelTA has learned.

The Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration said: “The construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt together with China opens up before us a number of new formats of multilateral joint interaction on the European continent. We see prospects of cooperation in the 16+1 format — Central and Eastern Europe countries plus China — with China playing the main role. Belarus’ participation in the format will open up new opportunities for our interaction.”

Nikolai Snopkov also noted that making the transition from loans to investment cooperation by means of direct investments is one of the key tasks in advancing Belarusian-Chinese relations. “We should reach a new stage in developing all-round relations between our countries. Chinese corporations are invited to participate in the charter capital of Belarusian enterprises and banks. We could set up joint financial funds and build up the legal base concerning the stock market,” explained the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration.
